Lydia Fort, Director




Lydia Fort has directed at Urban Stages, McCarter Theatre, New Federal Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theater, Classical Theatre of Harlem, Ethnic Cultural Theatre, freeFall Theatre and Hangar Theatre. Additionally, Lydia has developed new work and directed readings for several theatres including Flyin’ West, featuring the legendary Ruby Dee (New Federal Theatre) and Heal Me Television, featuring Clarke Peters and Yolonda Ross of HBO's "Treme" (Southern Rep). As part of Theatre for a New Audience’s American Directors Project, Ms. Fort participated in an invited workshop lead by Peter Brook. She is a Time Warner Foundation Fellow of the 2012-2014 Lab at Women’s Project Theater, an Affiliated Artist with New Georges, a TCG New Generations Future Leaders Grantee, New York Theatre Workshop Directing Fellow, and Drama League Directing Fellow. She received an MFA in Directing and a Certificate in Arts Management for the Performing Arts from the University of Washington. Assistant Professor, City College/CUNY.
